Is Television Killing Democracy?
Awhile back I read an article titled, “Brain Box: How television broke the minds of three generations and turned a Democracy into an empire.” In this article the author, Jacob Pederson, makes some very good points about how television is making us apathetic. We are so entertained by that box (or panel in many cases now) that issues about the world, or worse, our country simply do not matter.
Another point he makes is that many children grow up in front of the television, and many of those children grow to expect the same emotions they saw. A lot of things on television are over dramatic and they subconsciously come to expect those same emotions out of life all the time and when they don’t get that, they may take steps to create it.
What do you think? Does television killing our country, or messing people up, or both?
